To create 30-second sound samples (e.g. for audio previews of songs) from existing tracks on GNU/Linux, you can use SoX.

This command will create a 30-second sample starting at 30 seconds into the song, with a 2-second fade-in and a 2-second fade-out:

sox song-full.wav song-sample.wav trim 30 30 fade 0:2 0:30 0:2

It’s possible that with Ubuntu sox doesn’t convert mp3 files, as it has been compiled without mp3 support. In that case, either recompile sox or pipe the output into lame (or another encoder):

sox song-full.wav -t wav - trim 30 30 fade 0:2 0:30 0:2 | lame - song-sample.mp3

E.g. to convert all .flac files in the current directory to mp3 samples, issue this command:

for file in ./*.flac ; do sox $file -t wav - trim 30 30 fade 0:2 0:30 0:2 | lame - $file.sample.mp3; done

Im Rahmen der von ahnungslos.ch gestarteten Blog-Kunst-Aktion “Anonyme Einwegknipser” werde ich in den nächsten Tagen / Wochen (jenachdem wann ich dazu komme) eine Eingwegkamera irgendwo an einem belebten Ort in Burgdorf aussetzen. Wer die Cam sieht, darf 1-2 Fotos damit knipsen. Sobald der Film voll ist, werde ich ihn entwickeln lassen und die Fotos hier veröffentlichen.

Damit jeder sieht worum es geht, werde ich auf einem beiliegenden Blatt die Aktion erklären und einen QR Code (2D-Strichcode) mit einem Link auf diesen Eintrag einfügen. So kann man später direkt vom Smartphone aus die Resultate betrachten

Den Link zum entsprechenden Blogpost werde ich hier nachträglich hineineditieren. Bin mal gespannt was bei dieser Sache herauskommt…

To change table column encoding:

ALTER TABLE artists
CHANGE [fieldname] [fieldname] [fieldtype]
CHARACTER SET [encoding]
COLLATE [collation];

To change table encoding:

ALTER TABLE [tablename]
CONVERT TO CHARACTER SET [encoding]
COLLATE [collation];

To change database encoding:

My solution to stop wordpress comment spam is a combination of three WordPress plugins:

Akismet has protected your site from 11,247 spam comments already, but there’s nothing in your spam queue at the moment.

Since its last activation on May 25, 2010 NoSpamNX has stopped 385 birdbrained Spambots (17 per Day).

2,391 spam comments have been automatically discarded by the Conditional CAPTCHA plugin.

Since the time I started using this combination a few months ago, I have only had about 3 spam comments in my comment queue.
